The special weekday edition of a Voice of Arizona show this morning was entertaining! Thanks to Average American and Moron in Charge aka Mike for getting the day off with a bang.
A few issues came up that I want to expound upon.
First, a caller made a point that Clinton didn’t do anything about the Cole bombing. Others on the show brought up Reagan’s failure to deal with the Marine barracks bombing in Lebanon. The righties didn’t want to talk about cut and run Reagan. Anyway, because the Cole bombing was near the end of Clinton’s term, he choose to leave it to his successor.
But, what did Clinton do about other terrorist attacks? When the OKC Federal building was bombed the perpetrators were caught, tried and either executed or jailed. After the first attack on the WTC the perpetrators were caught, tried and are imprisoned for life.
Where is Usama Bin Laden, you know, the guy responsible for 9-11-01? We know that he is still free as he issued another audiotape today, his forth this year.
Second, the issue of potential violation of American's civil rights was approached. Of course, AA wanted “one example” of anyone’s rights being violated. Someone made the good point that we don’t know for sure because we have no idea what this administration is up to. A caller brought up Jose Padilla. No trial, no lawyer, no habeas corpus. The guy, an American citizen, is in limbo. Finally, AA admitted that if it was a family member he would fight to get the guy representation. As MIC said-that is exactly what the liberals are trying to do. It was a great exchange, and I hope that AA and other conservatives now understand that “liberals” don’t want all prisoners released, just given a trial.
Another topic of discussion was the UN resolutions and run up to the Iraq war. Resolution 1441, in part states:
5. Decides that Iraq shall provide UNMOVIC and the IAEA immediate, unimpeded, unconditional, and unrestricted access to any and all, including underground, areas, facilities, buildings, equipment, records, and means of transport which they wish to inspect, as well as immediate, unimpeded, unrestricted, and private access to all officials and other persons whom UNMOVIC or the IAEA wish to interview in the mode or location of UNMOVIC’s or the IAEA’s choice pursuant to any aspect of their mandates; further decides that UNMOVIC and the IAEA may at their discretion conduct interviews inside or outside of Iraq, may facilitate the travel of those interviewed and family members outside of Iraq, and that, at the sole discretion of UNMOVIC and the IAEA, such interviews may occur without the presence of observers from the Iraqi Government; and instructs UNMOVIC and requests the IAEA to resume inspections no later than 45 days following adoption of this resolution and to update the Council 60 days thereafter…
Saddam let the inspectors into the country. (Apparently, this was a shocking revelation to AA). Saddam was cooperating (Again, shocking AA). Here are quotes from Hans Blix the UNMOVIC head inspector in a follow-up report to the UN:
Mr Blix said that, in general, his inspection teams had "been able to perform professional, no-notice inspections all over Iraq".
“Despite a report from the chief UN weapons inspector describing Iraqi cooperation as "active or even proactive", America and Britain today pushed for a resolution giving Iraq a maximum of 10 days to comply fully with UN demands to disarm.” CNN
The inspectors were removed by the UN (not kicked out by Saddam) after Bush told them he was about to blow the country to smithereens.
So, the inspectors after four months of “professional, no-notice inspections all over Iraq” did not find WMD. (They did find some proscribed rockets which Saddam promptly destroyed).
The inspectors pleaded for just a few more months to complete their inspection. Blix himself said “Disarmament, and at any rate verification, cannot be instant, it will not take years, nor weeks, but months."
Bush said no, and took us to an un-necessary war. And surprise, surprise, NO WMD.
Bush didn’t return to the UN for a final resolution authorizing war. He didn’t have the support. The Chinese, Russians and French would not support the war. Now, AA believes that it was because of their supposed part in the corruption of the Food for Oil program.
If we are going to go to war over corruption, then I suggest we all get our torches, pitchforks and Smith and Wessons and get busy marching on Washington D.C. (Disclaimer for the NSA/FBI/CIA or other clandestine forces spying on me-I am not advocating this.)

Digg It!

I twas also Hans Blix and the guiy befor ehim that first compained about Iraq not allowing inspection up until ti looked as if we were going to war. You don't think that maybe Saddam had moved everything they were looking for by that time?
And I was amazed to hear that Saddam had suddenly had a change of heart, for this very reason I would have been even more eager to go take him out. He is a liar and a cheat and we know what those people try to do when given the chance.
And in retrospect, yes I would try to get a family memeber out If I knew he or she was innocent, but to be quite frank, if they arrested a family member for doing something that smelt wrong I would more tha likely be the first one in line to kick his ass and want to know just what the hell he or she had been up to.
On the Reagan comment lets remember that he also hit Libya hard and killed Quadaffi's kid as he sat watching T.V. Need I remind you of how quick Libya was to open their doors and allow for a total transparency of all their weapons building after we launched our war on Iraq... while Clinton launched cruise missles at empty buildings and an asprin factory.
