I hear the Republicans screaming now--"PROVE IT INDIE."
OK, but it is irrefutable, so consider this fair warning. And it should put to rest any notion of the liberal media bias.
Prior to the invasion of Iraq, the U.N. passed Resolution 1441. Part of this resolution stated that Saddam had to let UN Weapon Inspectors into his country. Saddam DID let them in, and the remained there until George W. Bush told them to get out. Hans Blix also reported to the UN that the inspectors were getting good cooperation overall from the Iraqi government.
But Bush and his cabal didn't want Saddam's cooperation. They wanted a war. So they invaded Iraq, and have lied about it ever since.
Bush's lies:
July 14, 2003:
“We gave him [Saddam Hussein] a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn’t let them in. And, therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power.”
January 27, 2004:
“We went to the United Nations, of course, and got an overwhelming resolution – 1441 – unanimous resolution, that said to Saddam, you must disclose and destroy your weapons programs, which obviously meant the world felt he had such programs. He chose defiance. It was his choice to make, and he did not let us in.”
March 21, 2006:
“I was hoping to solve this [Iraq] problem diplomatically,” Bush said. “The world said, ‘Disarm, disclose or face serious consequences.’ … We worked to make sure that Saddam Hussein heard the message of the world. And when he chose to deny the inspectors, when he chose not to disclose, then I had the difficult decision to make to remove him. And we did
May 24, 2007
“As you might remember back then, we tried the diplomatic route: [U.N. Resolution] 1441 was a unanimous vote in the Security Council that said disclose, disarm or face serious consequences. So the choice was his [Hussein’s] to make. And he made a choice that has subsequently caused him to lose his life.”
Not ONE reporter called him on these bald faced lies. NOT ONE!!
Worse, the lie has been repeated by the press. (Formerly) Respected Ted Koppel said this:
“It did not make logical sense that Saddam Hussein, whose armies had been defeated once before by the United States and the Coalition, would be prepared to lose control over his country if all he had to do was say, ‘All right, U.N., come on in, check it out,’”
Unbelievable.
Then it was CNN. At a Republican Presidential debate NO LESS:
Mitt Romney:
If Saddam “had opened up his country to I.A.E.A. inspectors, and they’d come in and they’d found that there were no weapons of mass destruction,” the war might have been averted.
There it is. Bush is a liar and the media lets him lie. And they are now letting Republican candidates lie.
How can we believe him when he says the US doesn't torture? How can we believe him when he says that no illegal wiretapping of American citizens isn't taking place? How can we believe him when he says....anything.

| AA. When the UN WMD inspectors, particularly Hans Blix, came back to report Iraq's cooperation with the inspectors, the report was very encouraging. No, Saddam was PERFECT, but he was being very cooperative. But guess who wasn't? The US government. The inspectors, rightly so said in effect "hey US government, where are the WMD's that Powell outlined in his speech?" They were meet with stony silence. Blix begged for more time before the shooting started. France, Germany and others would not sign onto a second resolution for force because they wanted to give Blix more time and avoid the war if at all possible. Well guess what? They were right. There were no WMD's, other than a few old unusable shells. But, the point of the article is: GEORGE W. BUSH LIES. He still does it today. “We gave him [Saddam Hussein] a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn’t let them in. And, therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power. That is a lie. It is unrefutable. It is a lie as much as "I did not have sex with that women, Miss Lewinsky" is a lie. And the media lets him lie-repeatedly. Oh, and one other thing. Saddam never kicked out the WMD inspectors. In the 1990's, under Clinton, the UN WMD inspectors withdrew themselves because of Saddams lack of cooperation. But Saddam didn't kick them out. Bush withdrew them right before he shocked, awed and bankrupted the USA with his little war. By the way AA. Did you hear that the war is costing the average US family over $20,000? |

| Wow, Hypocrite is the Judge again about what is 'proper' cut and paste..... And his 'excuse' for not trusting Saddam and having Israel (and other more prolifit violatiors or UN resolutions) as 'friends' and 'allies' is what? Ignorance? Stupidity? or just his normal Lehayvian'christian' EVIL? hypocrite would do better to do more cut and paste of people who actual understand their subject and less posting of his own WRONG uninformed opinions
This article can be found on the web at US Double Standardsby STEPHEN ZUNES [from the October 28, 2002 issue] The effort by the Bush Administration and Congress to portray the planned invasion of Iraq as simply an effort to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions reaches a new low in double standards. A survey of the nearly 1,500 resolutions passed by the Security Council, the fifteen-member enforcement arm of the UN in which the United States and the four other permanent members wield veto power, reveals more than ninety resolutions currently violated by countries other than Iraq. The vast majority of these violations are by governments closely allied to the United States. Not only have the Bush Administration and its Congressional allies not suggested invading these countries; the United States has blocked sanctions and other means of enforcing them, and even provides the military and economic aid that helps make ongoing violations possible. ...The most extensive violator of Security Council resolutions is Israel.
hypocrite, you would do better to do more cut and paste of people who actual understand their subject and less posting of his own WRONG uninformed opinions. At least you would look less ignornant.....

| Go Indie! The BAA Boy compliments you on your rigorous analysis and conclusion, then follows up with, “But, but, but…. I don’t believe it!” Let me counter with sincere congratulations for presenting a compelling argument followed by a resounding -- I DO BELIEVE! Mushroom clouds? Yellowcake bake sales? Oil revenues will cover the cost? Heckuva job, Brownie? We believe in diplomacy? Fight'em over there...? Mission Accomplished? Bring'em On? I’ll fire anyone in my administration who leaked the name of a covert operative? The economy is as sound as the dollar? Freedom is on the march? I looked him in the eye and saw his soul? Judge Robert's a good man? Scooter's a good man? Fredo's a good man? Petraeus's a good man? Mukasey's a good man? We don’t torture? Harsh interrogation has produced critical intelligence that's helped us stop a number of attacks? Financing healthcare for poor children is socialized medicine? I won’t comment on that while it’s still in the courts? I am relevant? No evidence to present, but I, like 3/4 of Above-Average Americans, do believe! And, hey BAA Boy, I like that snappy new moniker you've dreamt up - it displays your sexual repressions well! Soooo very Republican macho! |

Adam and BJune could both learn from you. You use the cut and paste option as it should be used, as a highlight and backup for your own thoughts and ideas.
Bravo...
As to the subject matter, 17 resolutions and a number of previous inspectors being kicked out of the country at different times would make one a little untrusting of Saddam's word don't you think?
Your other commented quotes give an indication that IAEA had open access to all sites in Iraq Indie. I don't believe they had the kind of open access that you appear to believe they had. IAEA was not popping in where ever and when ever they wanted and I think that alone was justification for the desire to remove Saddam.
