Hoo - Eee! While Washington’s Republican lawmakers are redefining themselves as the Grand Obstructionist Party, the rank and file is showing similar self-destructive tendencies.
According to a recent Rassmussen Poll:
o 43% of Republican voters say their party has been too moderate during the past eight years while 17% say it’s been too conservative;
o 55% think it should become more like Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, just 24% think the party should emulate John McCain and 11% say the party should be more like George W. Bush.
All this is pretty hard to reconcile particularly since Congressional Republicans contend they’ve rediscovered fiscal responsibility while Sarah's unveiled plans to build a highway from Fairbanks to Nome, current population, less than 4,000 without very many in between, at a cost of $2 to $3 million a mile - despite a projected state budget deficit in excess of a billion dollars!
