Some have suggested that I lacked the ability to do research to which I answer simply, no I don't. I just didn't think this topic was all that important. But being that the public demands I follow through I will present the facts as I have found them.

Al Franken lied about...

After Newsweek came out and retracted the story about the Koran being used a toilet paper in Guantanamo Franken claimed that it was still a true story and that it had been pulled because of pressure from the Whitehouse. What Franken either did not know or woul dnot admit is that the story was pulled because it was based on information from sources, terrorists being held there in Gitmo. Although they claimed a "government official" backed the story he has now recanted the story. "Last Friday, a top Pentagon spokesman told us that a review of the probe cited in our story showed that it was never meant to look into charges of Qur'an desecration. The spokesman also said the Pentagon had investigated other desecration charges by detainees and found them "not credible." Our original source later said he couldn't be certain about reading of the alleged Qur'an incident in the report we cited, and said it might have been in other investigative documents or drafts. Top administration officials have promised to continue looking into the charges, and so will we. But we regret that we got any part of our story wrong, and extend our sympathies to victims of the violence and to the U.S. soldiers caught in its midst." Newsweek. Yet Franken maintains the story to be true. By the wat hundreds were injured and at least 17 people died due to this gross mistaken report.

Next let us touch on the 8.8 billion dollars missing in Iraq since the start of the war. Al Franken claims that this is true. His source, Golloway. He played a long piece of George Galloway’s testimony before the Senate oil-for-food investigative committee on the situation in Iraq May 17, 2005, which in Galloway’s words is a “disaster”. Galloway, as you recall, is the British MP who was caught red-handed taking bribes from Saddam to prop up his government, expelled from the Labour Party, and elected to the Parliament by running a racist campaign against black Jewish woman Oona King in a district with a large Islamic fundamentalist registration. Both governments deny that moneys are missing and with a witness like Galloway they need not even answer the charge.

Let's take it down a notch here. There is the story he tells of Armitage "bolting" form a Senate hearing and in doing so runs into Helen Thomas knocking her down and breaking for hip. Helen says it is a lie. Yet as early as three weeks ago he repeated the story as fact.

There is Franken's claim in his first book that CLinton stopped the Millennium plot, but it didn't happen that way. This from the 9/11 report that you all think is gospel, "

"It appears that the heightened sense of alert at the national level played no role in Ressam’s detention."4

"As one of [CTC Richard] Clarke’s staff noted, only a ‘chance discovery’ by U.S. Customs had prevented a possible attack."

Funny thing is, it was Canadian Customs that found Ressam not U.S. Customs.

Franken claims that the swift boat team was proven liars, "[T]he mainstream press debunk[ed] each and every charge made by John O’Neill and his swarm of lying vermin (the Swift Boat Veterans)."WRONG AGAIN.

Among the many assertions from the SBVT that Kerry defenders failed to discredit (or they simply ignored) are the following:

1. John Kerry claimed he was on a mission in Cambodia on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 1968. In fact, Kerry said on the Senate floor in 1986 that the incident had been "seared" into his memory.
*** Eventually, Kerry’s own campaign had to admit that this tale was simply untrue.1

2. In a journal entry dated December 11, 1968, Kerry wrote, "[w]e hadn’t been shot at yet" since arriving in Vietnam. But nine days earlier, on December 2, 1968, Kerry solicited his first Purple Heart, claiming he suffered an injury from enemy fire. This is clearly a problematic contradiction.
*** On August 24, 2004, it was reported, "Kerry’s campaign has said it is possible his first Purple Heart was awarded for an unintentionally self-inflicted wound."2

3. In the Tour of Duty biography, by Douglas Brinkley, Kerry tells the story of how on the morning of March 13, 1969, he "got a piece of small grenade in my @ss" (page 313). Kerry relates how the grenade set off as he was standing too close to a bin of rice that he was trying to destroy. Mysteriously, later that same day, Kerry claimed his third Purple Heart, citing a wound suffered in the exact same place on his fanny. He claims it came from an underwater mine.3

4. John Kerry, as a member of the Naval Reserves, met with the enemy in Paris in 1970 and 1971.
*** In March of 2005, Marty Meehan, one of Kerry's spokespersons, acknowledged Kerry did actually meet with Madame Binh, the foreign minister for the Provisional Revolutionary Government (PRG/the "Viet Cong") in Paris.4

5. At an April 23, 1971, anti-war demonstration, Kerry was seen tossing medals over a fence at the U.S. Capitol. In a Nov. 6, 1971, television interview on WRC's "Viewpoints," Kerry said, “[T]he medals themselves ... I gave back, I can’t remember, six, seven, eight, nine.” Over the years, however, Kerry's story has changed so many times, it's hard to keep track. Medals? Ribbons? Wha--? For some help on this, see "One Fence, Nine Medals, Four Kerrys," by Ingrid Langsather, at http://www.humaneventsonline.com/article.php?.

6. John Kerry claimed on the Dick Cavett Show in 1971 that he "deliberated for about two weeks" in deciding whether to return to the States after his four months in Vietnam. Kerry’s last "wound" was on March 13, 1969, but by March 17, 1969, at 7:42 am, his request for reassignment in the United States had already arrived in Washington. "Two weeks"?? Uh-uh.

The amount of information out there is staggering about Franken and his inability to tell the truth. I am tired and am done for the night.
