Think about this. You mount your motorized steed and zoom down highways that crisscross your neighborhood, town, city and country at speeds that the Pharaohs, Cleopatra, and Alexander the Great, the Caesars, Napoleon and Queen Victoria with all of their power could not dream of experiencing. At least and live to tell about it, that is.
And you don’t normally give it a thought, now do you?
Human beings have for the last century and one-half done things that were beyond the powers and even the dreams of the most powerful people in human history. And you and an increasing number of human being around the world today take experiences that no amount of King Salomon’s Gold could buy in his time as just part of your daily routine.
Ever stop to think about that?

Digg It!

It is easy to compare ourselves with the Joneses, a cross sectional look at the here and now, the people and events in the “next room”, while wearing historical blinders. You may or may not be “better off” than your neighbor, but remember that the average life span in the Roman Empire was 25 years of age. The age of 35 was elderly, and to live as long as Aristotle was to be venerated as a wise elder. If I remember correctly, Alexander the Great died at age 35.
Even the least among us here in America, and many people around the world, can out speed and out distance all the kings, emperors, heroes and people of wealth and power for all of recorded history, leaving them in our dust, and that at a moments notice without even giving it a second thought.
Yes we have our challenges today, as have had all humans throughout history. But if this seed bears the fruit of thoughtful perspective for even one person, it was worth writing.
