What the heck is this idea that some people want to make it illegal to burn a flag? How ridiculous!!
- First of all, so many have died to protect the right to be able to do that.
- Secondly, I can make tshirts out of flags and burn pictures of flags and carry a sign that says "I hate America" (if I wanted to; which I don't)... and none of those things are a crime. Yet.
- Thirdly, What the hell is the crime? Is someone being hurt? Is it treasonous? Is it dangerous?
For cripes sake there are SO MANY OTHER PROBLEMS to be concerning ourselves with than this rallying cry for the desperate republicans.
What frightens me most is that the so-called polls (I don't believe any of that crap anymore) show that "most" people support a flag-burning ammendment? I don't buy it, but if it were ture, I have lost all faith in the sanity and wisdom of the American people. What little I had left....
I have never had any desire to burn a flag. Nor any reason. But hell, had this ammendment passed, I would have been the first to hang a burned flag in my yard. Perhaps surrounded by a chain-link square, wrapped in yellow tape that says "Free Speech Zone". Would I be arrested for just displaying it, even if I wasn't the one that burned it? Where does one draw the line?
Oh.
Well, if you are a republican, you draw it blindly wherever the masses or that idiot Resident Bush says you draw it....
I wonder if we need to amend the amendment to put you in jail for hanging a flag in your yard that was singed by someone else.
And what if you finish burning the flag, the "proper way to destroy old, worn or damaged flags", out of respect for it? Does that constitute burning the flag?
And come to think of it, what if someone starts marketing singed flags, or singed flag t-shirts, shorts, bikinis or undies?
And what about all those bastards all over the world that will light up an American flag (made in Mexico) with great glee just to see Uncle Sam (or at least the dumbs*** neocons) go apoplectic (or is that apocalyptic)?
And …
This could be grist for the neocon grist mill and a patriotic mission to subdue the world.
