Five Facts RV Dealers Don’t Want You To Know.
(1)Dealers don’t want you to know that they are marking up their new inventory by 40% because they don't know how to survive without it. This means if the dealer pays $150,000 on a new motor home they can turn around and sell it for $220,000 because banks are willing to finance a new coach for 40% above invoice. If you decide after a year or two that you want to trade it in, don’t be surprised if the dealership can only give you $110,000-$120,000 for it even if the NADA is $140,000. To them a one or two year-old coach is not worth as much as a new one they can buy for $150,000.
(2)Dealers don’t want you to know that aside from all their ordinary expenses they tack on to bring down the value of your trade in, they also add a 20% commission fee and another 10% fee called a PAC. Then on top of all these fees they finally add their profit. That is why the price they offer for trade and consignment is usually drastically lower than you can get otherwise.
(3)Dealers don’t want you to know your trade or consignment will have to compete directly with new inventory that they have marked up by 40%.
Dealers are paying interest and depreciation on the inventory they already own and (4) they don’t want you to know that they are far more motivated to sell their new inventory then selling the coaches that they take in on consignment or trade.
