There continues an age old debate about how to reduce/eliminate racism in this country.  The first step, I believe, is to eliminate they contrived idea of "race" to begin with.  There is no more difference between myself and Louis Farrakhan, than there is between me and my partner.  Genetically we are all homosapiens, period.  Add to the mix the the concept of "culture" and you have a recipe for bigotry.  Racists always point to the cultural differences in people to bolster their rationale for discrimination.  If society really wants to confront blantant racism we must first eliminate both of these ideas.  If a person with different skin color has "customs" different from your own, it needs to be viewed as part of AMERICAN culture.  Not to confuse customs with heritage, if an American exhibits traits or behaviors different from our own, then necessarily they must be American customs.  I have Italian ancestry, but my behavior is as American as anyone elses.  By forcing society to call their ignorance what it is, we remove the sanctions for that ignorance.  Racists must them call what they espouse by what it really is - I don't like someone because their skin is a different color than mine.
