| Have ever noticed that virtually everyone whose picture is Displayed in the obituary pages of the news paper is smiling and seems quite happy?
I think that’s good news. Apparently death agrees with us once we arrive at our earthly destination.
One thing I don’t quite understand, however, is how young some of these folks were at the time of their transmigration. One sees the smiling picture of good health, only to find when reading on that they were 89 years of age when the picture was taken. I suspect I won't look like I did at 25 if I make it to 89 orbits around the sun.
The least they could have done is bequeath us their formula for their elixir of youth. |

| The finality of temporality is questionable at best, based on reproduceable analysis. Whether the reward of the 'next' life depends on the servitude of this one or just the mere utterances of 'magic' words, one of the functions of death is power over life, just as one of the functions of life is power over senseless death. Being aniseptic over an 80 years olds death is one issue, being the same over a four year old from one of the millions of arms we buy, sell and use......is another. OIL being a finite source and LIFE being a finite source (as best we can tell), we must choose a relative value between the two. The comfort of our over-weight asses in our cushioned self-contained moble environments to and from our over-sized living environments to our strenuous 'jobs' running through the drive-thru for midday nourishment verses the lowly life of the poor who GOD has choosen to ignore, or even perhaps punish. Value..............the value of life, verses the value of death.... |

| Appropriate picture, Indie616. Perhaps you could come up with an epitaph – something along the lines of:
Where lies THE LIAR in an undisclosed location? May he burn in the fire for what he did to our Nation!
Hey. How about a contest? ________________________________________________________
Adam, you bring up another conundrum when you write “…one of the functions of death is power over life, just as one of the functions of life is power over senseless death.”
I have long wondered why we are given the power to kill, but not the power to bring to life (think Lazarus). Now understand that I am not talking about the power to AVOID “senseless death”, which is within our power. I am not talking about procreation and birth. I am talking about the opposite of the Lazarus ability – the administering of death.
Why such an asymmetrical gift from our Creator??????
Ever wonder about that?
Perhaps your statement holds a clue pointing us in the direction of the answer. |

| I like ‘em indi616. It does seem like a rich vein to mine, doesn’t it? Here lies Dick Cheney the liar; You can bet he is not playing a lyre!
You can however rest assured the he is busy stoking the fire.
or:
Here lies Cheney, or does he? More likely he is planted in an undisclosed location.

Digg It!

Hey. Looks like someone besides me is able to think (or at
least rate) outside of the box (the pine box, that is).
This article draws attention to a convention in that we take for granted and probably have never even thought about. Our society endeavors to make sure we never face the finality of death until it is no longer possible within our lives. Our propaganda engine, intent on encapsulating our minds and channeling our thoughts, puts a happy face on Mr. Death. It allows and encourages us, unlike most of human experience historically and globally, to treat it at arm’s distance as an antiseptic cerebral event, rather than the very real part of every day life that it really is for real people worldwide.
That is useful to the system, if for instance, it wants to submerge the reminder of death and destruction that flag draped coffins returning on a production line basis represent.
Or if it wants to visit Mr. Death on the poor Iraqis without having to watch the American Public over its shoulder.
Thou shalt be insulated from the wetwork - go forth and shop feverishly.
Post thought for food: I wonder if the obits in India feature grinning visages.
