This is a trip down nostalgia lane for some of us, and probably new territory for many newcomers here at VofA.
Here's an offering that has been languishing in my workspace for half a year. I would like to share it with you all in honor of those stalwarts that have disappeared from VofA, and our good old resident whetstone that has outlasted them and other adversaries such as rdrover, Maggie, Jeano, Akman, and captainmarvel to name a few.

Liberal or Conservative? by June
Consevative vs. Liberals and Other Truths by Average American
Reply To Average American by fasteddie
Snippet: “Throughout Consevative vs. Liberals and Other Truths, Average American defends Bush's actions and lies then labels the defense "Conservative". Sure looks like June's right, this is no political philosophy, Average, it's the ravings of a Bush supporter.” fasteddie

A Conservative By Any Other Name Is No Rose
Barry Goldwater’s vision for the future, as set forth in his nomination acceptance speech in 1964, has in many important respects become reality. He foresaw “… that the communism which boasts it will bury us will instead give way to the forces of freedom.” He envisioned it to be our destiny “… to stand as a great central pillar linking Europe, the Americans, and the venerable and vital peoples and cultures of the Pacific!”
True conservatives can take great pride in this man for his vision. But his greatest wisdom was his absolute devotion to our Constitution and Bill of Rights, the true meaning of conservative.
“We Republicans see in our constitutional form of government the great framework which assures the orderly but dynamic fulfillment of the whole man as the great reason for instituting orderly government in the first place.”
Those wolves masquerading in sheep’s clothing today that find it expedient to circumvent the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to pursue their narrow agenda are not worthy of the label conservative. The only possible tag is radical.

Congratulations on your tenacity, Double A. The site wouldn't be nearly as interesting without you. I truly hope you are not going to disappear too.

Digg It!

Some of you that have currently rolled up your sleeves and waded into the fracas here at VofA will someday join that list of ancients that have passed from the scene (we all will eventually of course). It is the way of things, but if I can convince any one of you to stay a day longer than you otherwise would have, then writing this is worth it.
I am sure that some of you that have joined the fracas recently have never seen those names I listed in the article. I had to manipulate articles and comment streams to pick up the thread for those ancient contributors.
While it can be done thataway, it would be nice if there were a directory of the ancient ones, a wall of remembrance so to speak, of those that have not contributed an article or comment for two or three months. Many of the old articles and comments that caused the site to be cloaked in a haze of the dust of battle so long ago are worth revisiting. There has been quite a “literary” archive started here at VofA, and it continues to build. I see that as an unused asset for VofA and its participants. Perhaps even more so as the site expands and attracts an ever increasing number of new participants.
What say you to that, VofA. (And I hope I haven’t overlooked a feature that meets that suggestion already – it could happen.)
