The title may seem a bit harsh, but in light of current events I must conclude that it is true. I am selfish, uncaring for children and I believe I also I am out to sabotage the elderly.
Now, for some of you this will seem an admission of what you have believe about me all along, but I assure you that until recently I was unaware myself of my situation.
Effective April 1st my budget is in for a minor disruption. It seems that in an effort to increase money for children's health care funding and elderly health care funding Uncle Obama (an Uncle Sam reference, not an Uncle Tom reference before Indie and her peeps get their panties cross-ways) has decided that cigarette smokers will be required to pay an additional $.60 per pack of legal substance. While my income level and my assets certainly allow me to absorb such an increase with no impact what-so-ever, I have to ask myself, why should I?
In the past I have stepped up the plate, paid the additional taxes while simply bitching and moaning about it. However, this time I am going to be proactive and end the cycle of tax violence against myself and my friends and family. I am kicking the completely legal habit and in doing so am painting myself with something of a scarlet letter. i thought I might be more conflicted. I mean how would you like to hear that you are the one paying for the children and elderly, yet everywhere you look, every movie you rent, every magazine you read, someone is telling you to stop your support of these feeble people?
Well, someone finally appealed to a part of me that has made a decision on the subject, my wallet. Effective April 1st I will be joining the ranks of the liberals. I will expect others to support those causes with their tax dollars that I deem necessary all the while forgoing my own support for the same causes. I encourage those of you on the right to join me.
Imagine a world where we can tell others what to do, how to spend their money, and if they don't take what we say to heart, we legislate them into doing it for us. It's glorious. Join the Left in forcing others to do what you yourself will not.
Now that is one way of looking at things. Or there is this other way...
Our Evolver in Chief is in the process of getting passed the largest increase in federal spending ever. He is preparing to place on our children's heads the largest debt ever with no conceivable way of paying it off. So why not stop paying every tax legally possible to throw as big a monkey wrench (again, a common phrase and not intended as racial in its use) into the works as we can? I mean fines (run your companies by the book thus screwing OSHA and every environmental organization that can possibly made a buck off you, not that you aren't already but be doubly careful) voluntary taxes like tobacco taxes, alcohol taxes, lotteries, toll and mean every tax that can be avoided by our own decision making. Travel by car but commute with others reducing the federal excise taxes on fuel, if you have money like I do, stop buying new things and start restoring old stuff so there are no taxes generated on the labor you pay and only minimal on the part you purchase instead of buying a $60,000.00 SUV, have one restored.
Now this will hurt everyone to some degree. I understand that, but starving the government is the only way we can control it at this point and with this leadership. Force Obama to raise taxes on everyone to finance his idiocy and everyone will get mad as hell and vote accordingly. Make him show his true liberal colors (again, not a reference to the color of Mr. Obama's skin but an old saying the describes a persons hidden beliefs and of feelings on subject matters) and bring the liberals tot he point they have no choice but to scream for higher taxes. that is the point where we can make our point the clearest about the wasteful spending on idiotic programs that have horrible track records over the last 50 years or more in many cases.
The time has come, hell it is past due. We keep feeding this beast it is just going to get stronger and at some point we will never be able to bring it back under control. Don't make the Chinese be the responsible ones and cut us off at the knees.
But what would I know; I'm just an Average American.

Works for me.
I quit smoking when they jacked the price up over $3 a pack.
Plus, your anti tax smoking holiday has 2 effects.
And that #2 will over the long term greatly decrease your healthcare costs, and once you hit Medicare, will mean lower costs for taxpayers.
So, once again, using free market pricing mechanisms, the govt influences peoples' behaviors towards socially good ends, even if the individuals undertake them for other reasons.
