Dubaiya has been a master buck passer since day one in the Oval Office. The buck never ever stops at his desk. It’s the media’s fault that my war isn’t going well. It’s a few renegade privates’ fault that torture has gotten out of hand. My national debt mess is the next and subsequent generation’s problem. Etc., etc.

but now he has achieved new heights of shirking responsibility.

When asked in a surprise hour-long press conference yesterday if there would be a day when no US troops were in Iraq, The Master Buck Passer said: "That, of course, is an objective. And that will be decided by future presidents and future governments of Iraq."

What are we paying this guy for anyway?

Howdy, Captain. I hadn't read Akman's article before I posted this one. I would have gotten around to it eventually, but thanks for the tip. I went right to it. Yes!

An idea strikes me, I get on-line and write it up before I explore the latest postings and comments. Should do it the other way around, but dang, there are so many good articles and comments posted by the old hands and new ones that I would never get around to posting my idea before it was history.

And sometimes the donnybrook comment stream that they generate are every bit as good as the posted article. I find myself wondering why some of these thoughts are not posted as articles, they are so well developed.

Amen, ALTRUISM. You're coming on strong. Good writing and you got it right. Keep it up.

The disrespect on serious issues Bush exhibits during his few press conferences angers me to no end. His playful and mindless attitude on topics such as; when will our troops come home is beyond insulting. Of course he passes the buck, he's oblivious and has no answers. He may have been in Special Ed in school, that's how good the Republicans are at putting a guy in office. It worked because he is a clone of daddy.

Good call, milau! You know there are rumors all over Washington that the Boss is good to go but his handlers can't keep up the pace, what with all the scandals and the bad news out of Iraq. Expect some major staff changes soon. That'll put Dubya back on TV sounding like he knows what he's talking about!

here we are with a media heavily influenced (if not controlled) by jewish people. And since Bushes first innaugaration the media has been right there "towing his line", Right off I noticed the similarities in this Bush Government with a certain german government in the fairly recent past. And I couldn't fathom why he seemingly had so many Jewish supporters . . . maybe when the shoe dropped they wanted to make sure they wern't under it! But, look what has happened. Bushes ass is in a sling and what does he do? Blame it on the jews (the media) Sounds familiar?

Major staff changes June? It seems to me that this fellow is so absolutely stubborn and set in his ways that he will auger his whole damned regime into the ground rather than change course. Do you have a whiff of something interesting coming out of the White House?

Bush goes way beyond insulting across the board for the last five years, milau. Bush has that infuriating condescending attitude toward the American people when he speechifies. He is barely tolerant of our inability to understand. He says “"Ya gotta repeat and repeat, over and over and over… you know, catapult the propaganda"?” He needs to have that simpering smirk wiped off of his face, and the nearest opportunity is coming up in November.

Prometheus, your observation is food for thought, but I have a different view. Given that the media is heavily influenced by Jewish interests, money and talent, it is not surprising that there is support for the Bush Christian Right Wingnut Regime. Why? It is fundamental to these fundamentalists that Israel is God’s chosen nation in the last days, a place where his people once again coalesce as a nation. That is to be protected in the name of God, and Israel has been a client state of the United States since its creation in 1948.

This is part and parcel of the apocalyptic view of world events, a view that this president and his minions subscribe to completely. In fact, they not only subscribe to it, but believe that they are God’s chosen instruments in bringing the Apocalypse on and initiating the last days.

You may be right, for the wrong reason. You are right about the NeoCoNazi forces in control of our government and the strangely docile and compliant press and media over the last five years. But ironically the NeoCoNazis and the Jewish community are allies in protecting Israel. There is no way that Bush can, or would, blame his problems on this sacred constituency. It would violate what he and his right wingnut fundamentalist Christian movement lives for.

Hey, nice logo Prometheus! I have to disagree with your Jewish point though. That's an old, tired argument and I don't see it's relevancy. Agreed that Bush reduced the media to publishing the White House line, almost exclusively, during his initial term. There never has been a plausible explanation, other than Rove co-opted the press.

However, the press has found a footing during Bush's second tour. Reporters are pissed at being characterized as White House lapdogs and the Justice Dept. has retaliated by launching an investigation of the Washington Post and the New York Times for divulging the torture practices of our military and the NSA warrantless surveillance of Americans.

Don't see Bush blaming the Jews for anything - he's very ecumenical when he spreads the blame for his
administration's shortfalls, though the press, the Liberals and the Democrats seem to be his favorite whipping boys.

Az Mod, I think it was Captain Marvel who reported the old line Republican's dissatisfaction with the way Bush is screwing the pooch in public these days. The rumor has legs to the degree that Bush was asked about White House Staff changes in his news conference this week and he dodged it.

Yet the story that Card and Rove are burnt out continues to bubble up as the explanation for Bush's incoherency these days.

The old guard's suggestion of new blood has created a continuing turf battle over who will program the President but expect some changes sooner rather than later.

Damn, June – ya got a way with words, and it’s a joy to watch you at work. I admire your coherency as much as your presentation. Just thought I should finally verbalize what I’ve felt for a long time.

I learn constantly from you, and of course many other contributors. But I have to stick to my assertion that this calcified mentality in the Oval Office will ride the bomb down. Remember Slim Pickens riding the H-Bomb down toward the target and waving his hat like he was riding a bucking bronco in Peter Seller’s “Dr. Strangelove, or How I learned to live with the H-Bomb and love it”). In fact, he was a cowboy too. With my apologies to cowboys, Yeee-Haww!

And I gather we're not talking about Barney here, although he has been conspicuously absent in photo ops of late. Hmmm ... But I'm sure the “pooch” has a long trunk and big palm leaf ears and comes in various shades of gray, right?

But you steered clear of my hypotheses on the Israeli – NeoCoNazi pact. I would be very interested to read your thoughts on that if you would. Verbalize please.

But, thank you for the compliments. When I consider your talent for expressing yourself and the breadth of your interests, I really am embarrassed or inspired, maybe both.

I'd ask if you wanta form a mutual admiration society but BAA Boy's bonding with you creates too many complications.

I employ Inspector Clouseau's approach to Israel and the Jews, in general - I believe everything, I believe nothing. My crusade against intolerance and prejudice colors my interpretations because I put everything I read and hear about Judaism through an anti-Semitic filter, e.g., Prometheus' opening sentence didn't make it through but the gist of his comments makes sense in terms of coalition-building. However, with that opening, he could have run out the standard "Jews control and manipulate our news" gambit.

Frankly, I don't see widespread, organized Jewish support for Bush, but that's neither here nor there. No question about the Apocalyptists support for precisely the reasons you state.

But, I ask, "So what?" That's because I believe this is a minority fringe group within the Religious Right and people confuse Bush's pandering to Christian zealots, in general, with the Left Behind crowd.

In fact, in one of his recent public forums, Bush was asked to connect his protectionist-stance-towards-Israel dot with the Apocalyptic dot and he replied that that was the first time he'd ever heard of a such a connection.

Was he playing dumb? Is he that disconnected? Can't tell, but his remark - which sure sounds like a putdown to me - seems to reflect my take the Apocalyptists' political importance.

Now, the geo-political importance of Israel is another matter! Israel is the Wildcatters of the Western World's wet dream and I ain't talkin' semen here! It's t-h-e foothold, t-h-e nose of the camel in those mysterious and alluring petroleum pools of the Middle East. I'd suggest that's often a very large underlying consideration behind any special dispensation shown the Jews or the Israelis.

Do you think Israel's unique status would have continued if the Iraqis had greeted our troops with sugared tea and rose petals? If we'd succeeded in installing a puppet democracy in Baghdad within a year of the invasion?

Food for thought.
