Today the G.O.P revealed their long awaited budget as a counter to the Obama proposed budget.
I don't know about you all, but I thought a budget was supposed to have numbers, estimates and details.
Not if you are John Boehner and Eric Cantor. Boehner got off to a bit of a rocky start when he said:
"Two nights ago, the president said, 'We haven't seen a budget yet out of Republicans.' Well, it's just not true, because here it is, Mr. President." Got that? 2 days ago, when Obama said the Reb's hadn't presented a budget because they hadn't until today, he was lying. Yikes!
Surely, this monumental budget proposal as presented by the Republicans would outline their plan in detail-the costs, the savings (how, what, when and where) and the impact of their proposal on the average American. Surely? Maybe?
Boehner said it did: "Today we're introducing a detailed road-to-recovery plan"
Hilarity at the press conference ensued. Snippets:
Are you going to have any further details on this today?" the first asked.
"On what?" asked Boehner. "This is a blueprint for where we're going. Are you asking about some other document?"
A second reporter followed up: "What about some numbers? What about the out-year deficit? What about balancing the budget? How are you going to do it?"
"There's no detail in here," noted the reporter.
A third reporter asked Boehner about the Republican goal for deficit reduction, noting President Obama aimed to cut it in half in five years. "What's your goal?"
"To do better," said Boehner.
"How? How much?"
"You'll see next week."
"Wait. Why not today? Because he asked you to present a budget."
Then, Boehner, channelling his inner George W. Bush, who once famously said, "it's a budget, its got lots of numbers in it" said "But understand that a budget really is a one-page document. It's just a bunch of numbers."
As Boehner was leaving the room a reporter asked if the GOP would oppose all bailouts in the future. Boehner was non commital. But if you go to the GOP budget, enticingly called "The Republican Road to Recovery" one of the tenets is "Ends the Bailouts."

Now, all this would be hilarious, except the right wing MSM will tout the fact that the GOPer's laid out an alternative budget plan. One that lowers taxes, ends bailouts, provides universal healthcare (seriously, that is in there), keeps energy and fuel costs low, keeps cost of living low, and reforms Medicare and Medicaid. Nevermind HOW that would happen. Or the costs of it happening. Or what it would do to deficits and national debt.
And, finally, it makes one wonder. When they had control of the Congress and Presidency for 6 years, why didn't most of this stuff happen?

Digg It!

The Dem's have weighed in and given this GOP proposal the respect it deserves:
From the DNC's Hari Sevugan:
"After 27 days, the best House Republicans could come up with is a 19-page pamphlet that does not include a single real budget proposal or estimate. There are more numbers in my last sentence than there are in the entire House GOP budget."
Robert Gibbs, White House Press Secretary:
"There's one more picture of a windmill than there are charts of numbers. And there's exactly one picture of a windmill."
