Geography: Mexico is unique among third world countries. An accident of geo-political evolution gave Mexico a border with the richest and most democratic nation on earth. This removes the very real physical oceanic barriers that poor immigrants (and would-be immigrants) of previous waves had to surmount. The Mexican illegal alien can move back and forth across the imaginary border, a political figment of the imagination, at some risk but without much effort.

Why is it that this gets little to NO attention? It is the defining element that makes this “immigration” so terribly different from any others that we as a nation have weathered.
Mexican attitude is certainly part of problem. In his State of the Union Address last week El Presidente Felipe Calderón y Roca chastised the United States for enforcing its laws against Mexico’s citizens that are here in droves illegally. He stated that “Mexico does not end at the border. Wherever there is a Mexican, Mexico will be there.”
Strong words for America, stern warnings for Mexico

If America’s President made such a statement, we would be scourged with global outrage for meddling in another nations internal affairs.
But this is not surprising given the Mexican attitude. “According to a Zogby poll in 2002, 58 percent of the Mexican people believed the U.S. Southwest belongs to Mexico, and 57 percent believed that Mexicans have the right to enter the United States without U.S. permission. Only small minorities disagreed with these propositions.” (2/17/2006) - By Lawrence Auster, FrontPageMagazine.com”

At issue is our national sovereignty. And that underpins what it means to be an American.
Legal immigrants honor our sovereignty by doing it according to the book, our book, the book of the nation they are in either temporarily or permanently.
Illegal aliens do not honor our sovereignty. At best they disregard it. At worst they challenge it. That is where I take up arms on this issue.
It’s not about the illegal alien’s right to pursue freedom. It’s not about the illegal alien’s right to make a living. It’s not about the fact that America was created by immigrants. It is about preserving our sovereignty. It is about how or even whether we will continue to exist as a nation. Any other argument begs the point. Any other argument is a straw man.
