American Idol

 Why don't all the people stop smooching up to celebrities and quit buying their gossip rags and bring them down to their level of slightly human where they poop and vomit and pass gas like everyone else?

They are not the problem. The problem is people that buy their gossip filled rag papers, idolize them, and the TV stations have a money making deal on their hands.

Just because it is maybe time to impeach the Prez doesn't mean they deserve to be chastized for watching American Idol just because others have priorities. It is their right to do that without question as much as it is my right to Listen to Country Music even though Country is not the same as it used to be and is rapidly fading from any market money making.

You can't determine and establish priorities for others on what YOU think they should be doing .

I think it is good you put this under "Entertainment . . ." some of the categories listed for us are seldom used. . .  but perhaps if we, as a group, could bait some more bloggers by being more diverse . . . but I have seen people post things under "Politics, National," likely because that is the most used topic, not because their articles fit . . . there.

I don't watch Idol . . . not because I hate TV or don't think the people are talented, at least the ones who are not "planted" in the competition so that rude jerk can insult them and they stand there and take it . . . and why is every contestant a singer but the winner is supposed to be our "Idol," and there ya go, Idol worship is bad because . . . wait  . . . this looks like I do watch it . . . but I have only see the ads . . . not for me. . .

It might be instructive, however, for you or others to postulate on why things like this . . . or what they call Reality shows . . . there's a term . . . what is "real" about a contrived situation? . . . anyhow, to expound on why you think it is that with so many serious problems our country faces do so many care about these types of things? 

I would have hoped it is temporary escapism from harsh realities . .  but I don't think that is true... I think many Americans organize their lives around shows . . . and rock stars, or movie stars . . . or sports, too . . . people are famous for being famous??? Howzat work agin'?

I suppose I am saying it's fine to have an "idol" in the movies or on a team but it should be in some balance with reality . . . and what is happening in the world.  I don't know anybody's age around this blog-o-shere . . . but I know some young folks who pay no attention to what the politicians do, and say " it doesn't matter," etc.  as if they have no direct bearing on their lives...and I think otherwise.  They are the same people who say history is irrelevant to their lives as well . . .

Celebrities are America's role models

Like Snoop Dawg and his fellow peaceful rappers? Like Paris "Fruitcake" Hilton who was quoted as "I worked hard for what I have". Great Role Model. Like Britney Spears who doesn't know what stability is? Like celebrities that a seven year marriage is a great feat?

Americans want to be rich.

Rich? 100, 000 in the bank for me would be rich. Others the sky is the limit.

Americans want to be pretty.

Too big of an obsession with that. People should be more satisfied. Besides, if I were handsome I would wonder if I made it for me or for my looks. Same way with beautiful women who do have an edge.

Americans want to be paid for looking rich and pretty.

That's free enterprise if someone can market clothes, makeup, bras,  by their looks and get paid for it.

So celebrities lifestyes are the paradigmn of choice which most aspire to.

Hope I never have to endure the misery from the mistakes celebreties make.
