Cheaper Food from Mexico

It may seem rather far-fetched to think that we in the United States are setting ourselves up to import our food from Mexico. Sounds ridiculous? Well just stop and think. It was not long ago that we laughed at radios, watches, and other technologies from Asia. Today we are no longer laughing. It wasn't long ago when we laughed and scorned China. No one is laughing now.

It seems that we in the United States have no idea of reality. There are four important economic changes that have taken place

  1. Capital moves freely across borders
  2. Goods move freely across borders
  3. Services move freely across borders
  4. Corporations are legally persons and the multinational corporation is a person with as many citizenships as countries in which it does business

Governments are in competition, offering corporations citizenship in their country. This places corporations in the position to minimize labor and maximize profits. And here is why.
We as persons are imprisoned by our citizenship. We are all locked be hind borders and the corporation is not. Therefore when we shut down the borders, the corporation will look at its global lists of citizenship to determine, which citizenship is more advantages to its bottom line (profits). When it gets too costly to grow chickens in the United States, Tyson Chicken will move parts of its business to Mexico where the labor is cheaper. Our arrogance and in some cases racist attitudes may eventually cost us the lost of producing our own food.

Then we will be a super power that does not make its own steel, have its own energy, source, cannot manufacture most of the items we use in our households. Of course we will have plenty of tanks and bombs and aircraft carriers, and a huge Army, which we finance with capital borrowed from (once) third world nations and (former) banana republics.

Wall street will show great profits on its imports from third world countries. That is right. We the only super power in the world would have a strong anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-Mexican, anti-flag burning amendment - a strong Christian Nation looking of preemptive wars to fight. We will be burying an honoring our children but we will have the country of Hinn, Robertson, Falwell, and the others. Our government will be putting journalists in jail, wire tapping our phones, but we will have our jails filled with young black men, and everything will be all right. Main while in reality - the rest world will quickly pass us by leaving us with one question. 'What happened?'

Maybe it is time to rethink what patriotism is all about and get of the pre-sixties trip before we lose it all.
