If any Major Leaguer wants to know how to come clean about steroid use - you listening Rocket/Baroid/Big Mac/Sosa? -do what Matt Herges did recently in the Denver Post Live up to the choices you made, be a man, grow stronger from it.
Herges is the 37-year-old pitcher who admitted to "leading a double life" while using steroids and other performance enhancing drugs at various times throughout his career.
He finally came clean to his wife the night before the Mitchell Report was to go public. He said he is thankful for the report because it made him a better person. you can read the article here http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_8250612
Steroids don't belong in baseball but I don't think the average fan can judge a player that did something that wasn't prohibited by the game, was easily available and would secure a small fortune for the well-being of their family as long as they take responsibility for their actions.

| Governor Schwarzenegger should be in charge, It should be the Schwarzenegger report, not the Mitchell report! Who knows more about Steroids and HGH abuse than a former Mr. Universe?

| It still amazes me that with all of the issues that this Country has that our Congress is wasting time with an issue that they really have no jurisdiction on! During the spectacle of last week, all of the cameras were focused on Roger Clemens and just down the hall was Condi Rice answering questions about the lies that were taking place leading up to the war! Did that get any coverage? Very little! Our Representatives were more interested in talking to one of the most productive pitchers ever instead of dealing with the issues of the government. That is really what is a shame about these hearings. |

View this Comment The baseball congressional hearings are about more than just baseball, steroids and records. They are about holding people accountable for their actions. Comically, if the US congress cannot get athletes - who I believe are in the list of Top 5 Professions That Require Lying - to tell them the truth, how do you expect congress to get the absolute No. 1 lying professionals, politicians, to tell the truth? |

| we could make lie detectors mandatory! I have to let prospective employers practically look up my bum before they even think about hiring me. Employers also get to do a "random" drug test any time they want! why can't we make our employees (people who hold elected political office) take lie detectors? three strikes and they are out. Sounds reasonable to me

The recent spectacle of Congressional hearings on the alleged use of steroids and/or Human Growth Hormone (HGH) by Roger Clemons, a professional baseball player nicknamed "the Rocket," throws into question the viability and functionality of a Congress controlled by the Democratic Party. The House Government Reform Committee, chaired by Representative Henry Waxman (D-California), carried out its own made-for-television version of Court TV, grilling the All Star pitcher and his former trainer over their contradictory statements as to whether or not Clemons actually was injected with a banned performance enhancing substance. While this hearing was underway, thousands of miles away, in Iraq , American service members continued the ugly business of occupying Iraq . That Waxman would abuse his position by pursuing such trivia while Americans continued to fight and die in a war built exclusively on a framework of lies is disturbing.
....the Government Reform Committee was acting in response to an independent investigation, the Mitchell Report, authorized not by Congress, but rather the Commissioner of Baseball.
