No man is better than another. Every man has fundamental rights that no one --and no government -- can take away. Government is created by men to protect these basic rights, not to infringe upon them, and the power of government comes directly from the people. So when the government abuses its power, and starts acting like a dictatorship, the people have a duty to speak out defiantly against their leaders, to protest the government, and to demand change. If that doesn’t work, people have the right to rise up and overthrow the government, and to replace it with something that actually does answer to the people.
Of course, going as far as revolting against the government should only be an action of last resort, and only when the government’s abuse of power becomes so intolerable that there is no other choice. We’re at such a point in our history right now. The current administration has amassed a long list of flagrant abuses of power, all to the same end of ending democracy as we know it, and replacing it with a tyrannical monarchy seeking unlimited power. What has our arrogant would-be king done to warrant such drastic action?
- He has conspired to lead us into an unnecessary and illegal war for the enrichment of war-profiteers.
- He has turned the eyes and ears of the people’s government upon and against its own people.
- He has violated international treaty prohibiting torture, to which we are signatory.
- He has denied habeas corpus, allowed extraordinary rendition, and engages in indefinite detainment.
- He has manipulated the institutions of government, including our intelligence agencies and Department of Justice, for narrow political interests and the aggrandizement of power.
- He has thwarted the will of the people’s Congress and abused the separation of powers via such artifice as signing statements, Executive Privilege, the Unitary Executive, and the willful ignoring of congressional subpoenas.
- He has recklessly engaged in a concerted effort to sell the country’s public interest to corporations and foreign interests, and to privatize our public institutions.
- He has manipulated our independent media, necessary in a free and healthy democracy, with propaganda and lies.
- He has engaged in the treasonous betrayal of our intelligence assets for the base motive of political retribution.
- He has plundered our military, our national resources, our economy, and our people in flagrant neglect of his duties, or by deliberate malfeasance.
- Every time the people have sought redress for the above offenses, the answer has been silence, or an aggressive campaign of destroying the accuser. Often the response would be accompanied by even more overt disdain of the people and the Constitution. These are the actions of a tyrant.
The Commander in Chief is not the one held responsible for these many transgressions. One man could not commit such crimes without the help of his courtiers within the administration, the blind support of his ideological loyalists, and a complicit Press. Despite our warnings, our entreaties, and our efforts to seek justice through the channels of government; despite our appeals that we are all blood brothers; our concerns have gone unanswered. To this end, they are enemies if they’re against us, and they are friends if they’re with us.
So that’s it. With God or nature as our witness, we need to rise up and form a new nation to serve as a beacon of freedom and liberty for the rest of the world; one that is once again free and independent of the despotism that enslaves and oppresses us. With any luck, we’ll succeed, or we'll die trying.
