The 9-11 conspiracy theory seems to be gaining in support and attention daily.  I'm not sure if this is due to new and compelling evidence, or simply a growing sentiment that when it comes to the neo-fascists in power, we regretfully conclude "I wouldn't put it past those bastards."  After all, this Administration has lied to us repeatedly, and they continue to do so daily.  There is much to distrust in anything they say, and that includes the events surrounding 9-11.  

I have a strong science background, with degrees in physics, aerospace engineering, and mathematics.  Despite this, I have remained relatively neutral on the 9-11 debate because an educated analysis of the evidence requires an expertise in many diverse fields that few of us have, including myself.  Movies like Loose Change are intriguing but far from convincing.  Organizations like 911 Truth have the backing of many scientists and engineers, adding some weight to their questioning of the conventional wisdom.   On the other hand, many less politically organized academics and scientists disagree with these conspiracists.  Many internet sites are dedicated to debunking myths of 9-11.  Some do a better job than others -- none completely put to rest my lingering doubts.  A particularly good URL that I urge you to explore is http://www.debunking911.com/index.html because of its detailed discussion, analysis, and clear organization.  

I have no agenda with this article other than to raise a concern.  A lot of recent programming on 1480AAPHX has been devoted to 9-11 conspiracy theories, with leading activists making their case for the big 9-11 lie.  I have yet to hear any experts invited on the air to address and counter the conspiracy accusations one by one.  Moronic neocons calling into the station during these shows and accusing liberals of being conspiracy nut cases are no substitute for a rational or balanced discussion of the facts.  There is much credibility to lose if Air America Phoenix allies itself too much with one side of the debate, and the truth eventually proves out the other.  I would hate to see the crucial work of being the sole liberal outlet for news in the Phoenix area compromised by adopting a premature stance on such a complex topic.  I'm not saying to not give this issue proper attention; I'm just saying, be careful.

There are many other conspiracies involving the Bush Administration that stand on much more solid ground than the claim that 9-11 was an inside job, or that Al Queda doesn't really exist.  How about the conspiracy of fools that permitted 9-11, the post-Katrina disaster, or the failed occupation of Iraq because of criminal neglect and incompetence?  How about the trumped up casus belli for the invasion of Iraq?  How about the stealing of elections, or the outing of a CIA agent, or the top-down orders to torture in Abu Graib and Guantanamo?  When Democrats win the midterm elections in November, and when they finally chair Congressional committees and wield subpoena power, and when they fully investigate the many wrongdoings of Bush & Co., then we'll have impeachment for their misdeeds.  Who knows?  Maybe in the process of finally shining the light on these cretins, we'll discovery that they indeed had foreknowledge of 9-11 and permitted it to happen, or maybe they did orchestrate tragedy after all.  If so, I'm sure the executions will be carried on a Geraldo Rivera Fox News Special Report.
